These stories are designed to record, share and celebrate the personal journeys of a transgender woman, a transgender man and a transgender non-binary individual. Each has fought to cast off the gender assigned to them at birth and embrace their true selves. It takes courage and support. There are struggles and triumphs. Hard decisions have to be made. By opening up to the world, their experiences help us all to better understand a transgender life.

Titles include:

Pina Newman: True Self Suppression
25-year-old Pina Newman tried to suppress her true self but eventually “it just erupted.” When she was young, she received bad psychiatric advice that her parents initially trusted. It was a long journey to decide who she is and what she wants; and that journey continues today. But one thing she is sure of, she is proud of who she is. “I am who I am and I am enough.”

Xavier Raddysh: Role Model For Trans People
18-year-old Xavier Raddysh knew at an early age that he was not a girl. By the time he was a teen it was painful being treated as a girl. He began “cutting” and eventually attempted suicide, twice. Today he describes himself as a role model for other trans people; speaking to students so trans people know they can get through it and others can be more understanding.

Sandy Leo Laframboise: Two-Spirited
54-year-old Sandy Leo Laframboise has led an extremely tough life, beginning prostituting at age 12. This led to drugs and a destructive lifestyle. Once Sandy got clean she could begin healing. Through her First Nations culture, she realized she is Two-Spirited, neither male or female. She embraces both genders. Sandy now spends her life helping others full time; paying it forward.
