The Play it Out series explores the rapidly changing issues confronting teenagers through improvisational skits that allow teens to speak directly to teens. By using improvisational skills to Play it Out, teenagers pick up on subtle language and context cues that can only come from students speaking to other students.
The life of the teenager is changing rapidly. Technology, media, access to information and social pressures have created a dynamics that did not exist even 10 years ago. Play it Out challenges viewers to think critically about social dynamics and encourages healthy behavior by watching others work out problems in real life situations. Play it Out offers solid solutions and opens the door to rich communication using the language of today's young adults.

Am I Ready For Sex?: How Will I Know? Everyone talks about sex, TV shows, movies, magazines, friends and family. But in the midst of all that talk, it can be very confusing and difficult for teens to work out what’s true or what information they need to know before making a decision about becoming sexually active. This program outlines the things to consider. Viewers will learn that everyone has a reason to have or not to have sex, and not to give into the pressures. It is emphasized that the decision to have sex has got to be on your own terms, and for your own reasons.
This video stresses the importance of knowing about having safe sex. Students will come to understand that for their physical and emotional health they must know the facts about sex. If not, they must ask questions and get the answers they need from health care professionals or other adults they can trust. And finally, the program asks students to explore and think about their own values about sex before they say yes and to realize that abstinence is always a good option.
Digital Distractions: How to Stay Safe, Healthy And Sane According to a new poll by the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project, cell phones, computers and other digital devices have become the technology of choice for teens to communicate with each other. Texting has become the preferred form of communication, surpassing face-to-face contact. The increase in use of this technology raises conflicting questions for teens as to how it is used, when and where it is used, and why it is used. Digital Distractions explores the issues of this technology addressing personal boundaries, privacy, relationships with others, multitasking and productivity and important health and safety issues. The program guides students toward the understanding of the visual, physical and cognitive distractions caused by the use of digital technology.
Healthy Dating Relationships: Head Over Heels? How To Keep Your Balance Just by nature, humans are social creatures. We develop and maintain many different kinds of relationships. Healthy relationships are an important part of our lives. This program explores the characteristics of a healthy dating relationship. Students will come to understand how to develop and maintain a healthy dating relationship and to know if they're in a healthy relationship. The program discusses communication skills necessary to build healthy relationships. Students will learn how respect, honesty and compromise play an important part in all relationships.
How to Be Assertive: Sticking Up For Yourself There are many ways to define the word assertiveness. Some simply describe it as the ability to say no. In this program, students will come to understand that assertiveness is a kind of confidence. It is a skill that helps people clearly communicate their needs, wants and feelings without hurting anyone else. Assertiveness is a way to effectively communicate thoughts, feelings and wants. This program presents true-to-life scenarios where teens are pressured into a behavior that is risky, illegal or unhealthy. Viewers will learn skills that will help them to be more assertive, which in turn will help them have more control of their lives as well as feel more content and confident.
How to Fight Fair: The Rules of Engagement Every couple faces disagreements and conflicts. Some are trivial and others can provoke very strong feelings. That’s why fighting fair is an important skill to have in any relationship. The trouble is most people never learn how to handle their feelings in a constructive manner. This program helps viewers to understand their conflict style and to recognize their partners too. Each scenario demonstrates the skills necessary to resolve conflicts so that everybody wins.
Texting and Sexting: Think Before You Hit Send Dramatic scenarios will help students to understand the positive and negative sides of this new technology. With the new technologies, students, using their cell phones, mobile email devices and handheld computers, can send and receive messages within seconds. Unfortunately, most kids don’t know social and legal consequences of sending an inappropriate text or picture. This program explores the basic do’s and don’ts of texting and sexting. After viewing this program, students will come to realize the importance of considering the long term and unintended consequences of hitting “send."
The Sex Talks You Must Have: Before You Become Sexually Active For a teen, deciding to become sexually active IS a big deal. It IS a life-changing decision. That’s why it’s so important to have open and honest discussions with your partner about sex, before you become sexually active. This program is designed to make students aware of the physical and emotional health risks of having sexual relations.
Understanding Sexual Consent: The Physical, Emotional And Legal Consequences Many times people feel confused when it comes to sex and intimacy. Sometimes it’s difficult to know if the person you’re with wants to be intimate and even more difficult to ask or find out. Everyone needs to understand consent is and is not. In this program students will learn that consent is not passive. Consent is a behavior that clearly shows that the person agrees to the sexual activity at the time. Viewers will come to understand that giving in is not the same as giving consent and you can’t assume consent. The program points out that many people are manipulated into doing things they’re not ready or willing to do and that manipulation is not consent.
Young adults will learn that saying yes one time does not imply ongoing, unlimited consent and that they have the right to change their mind and say no anytime for any reason. They will come to realize that a misunderstanding can cause physical, emotional and legal consequences that can impact the rest of their life.
Unhealthy Dating Relationships: Are You Blinded By The Bright Light of Love? Unfortunately jealousy, possessiveness, and emotional and physical abuse are accepted behaviors in far too many young relationships. This program challenges teens to take time for a relationship check-up. Each scenario presents true-to-life relationship challenges that just about every young person faces at some point. The program helps viewers identify characteristics and behaviors that are not conducive to healthy relationships. Students are encouraged to honestly assess their relationship as to fairness, respect, trust and communication. |
