Travel back billions of years to learn how the Earth was created, what the climate was like and the first living organisms. From there we proceed along the geological time scale- Precambrian, Paleozoic, and Mesozoic periods. Concepts such as how population, competition and adaptation are important to the development and survival of living organisms are explored as well. Titles include:
Development of Life: Part 1 Early Life What were the first living organisms on Earth? How did they work? In this episode, we travel millions – even billions – of years backwards in time in order to learn how Earth was created. We study the significance of the nebular hypothesis and how Earth has changed since its inception. We also discuss concepts such as stromatolites, organelles, and eukaryotes.
Development of Life: Part 2 Life Through the Ages In this episode we will learn about the geological time scale beginning a billion years ago examining the climate and what living organisms existed on Earth at that time. We discuss the Precambrian, Paleozoic, and Mesozoic periods, and learn about the oldest known bird, Archaeopteryx, and why the dinosaurs died out.
Development of Life: Part 3 Evolution and Darwin In this episode we take a closer look at Charles Darwin – who he was and why his theories are important to our understanding about the development of life. We explore what evolution is and the meaning of natural selection. We’ll illustrate how population, competition, and adaptation are important to the development and survival of living organisms. |
